Things to do at HAL Aerospace Museum

1. HAL Heritage Center

HAL Heritage Center

As soon as you enter the Heritage Center is towards your right. A help desk is located at the building entrance.

The building is circular with rooms detailing images of aerospace industry. You will also find small replicas of aircraft in each room. We did not find this room very interesting but history lovers are in for a treat.

2. Real Life Models of Planes/Engines/Helicopters

The real life models of planes are in open air towards the left when you enter the museum and in the building at the front.

3. Simulators

HAL Heritage Museum - Basic Simulator
Basic Simulator

The simulators are located in first floor of the building at the front when you enter the museum.

Cost for Basic Simulator was Rs 50. Basically it was a cockpit shaped capsule with 3 monitors and a joy stick. There is not objective in the game you just have to keep a trainer aircraft afloat over the city. Overall my 5 year old enjoyed the experience.

At the time we visited the Motion simulator game was out of service. Cost of it was Rs 100.

4. Sustainability Development Park

HAL Aerospace Museum - Renewable Energy
Sustainability Development Park

This is a small section about renewable energy. Nothing new for adults but my kids had lot of questions about them. A good way to introduce the concept to kids.

Solar water heater, Solar cells, Hybrid wind mill and bio gas plant was on display.

5. Kids Play Area

There is a small play area for kids with swings, slides etc. My kids enjoyed spending some time there.

6. Fish Pond

There is a small fish pond in front of the cafeteria. Most of it is not in use now and there were very few fishes.

7. Cafeteria

The cafeteria was well priced but the options were limited. It had basic items like samosa, chocolates, biscuits, buns, instant noodles and tea/coffee/soft drinks. A dosa counter is also available only on weekends.

While the seating area in cafeteria is limited there are lot of benches just outside and at the backside of cafeteria (the way is alongside the dosa counter).

8. Souvenir Shops

The souvenir shop is beside cafeteria and the items were decently priced. Models of helicopter/planes and small toys were available.

Other facilities

  1. Wash rooms are available and were clean.
  2. Ample seating space beside the cafeteria
  3. Gardens - Rose, herbal etc. Some of these sections were closed when we visited.
  4. Parking space is just out side the museum but is limited.
